animal cloning (redirected from Dolly (sheep))
Also found in: Wikipedia
animal cloning The artificial production of one or more apparently perfect copies of an existing animal by inserting a copy of its DNA into an ovum from which the nuclear genetic material has been removed and then persuading the ovum to function as a ZYGOTE. There are indications that the process, as currently used, may in some way damage the genome. Many of the mammalian clones so far produced show defects that appear to reduce the normal life span.
