A program of health care specific to a designated population (e.g., diabetic patients), offering an organized, systematic pathway to guide clinicians and patients through predetermined steps to measurable outcomes. The program encompasses five elements: clinical guidelines, a coordinated delivery system, health care provider support, patient support and education, and outcomes management.

Promoted to vice president of pharmacy health services in June 2000, Drew spearheaded the development and implementation of a number of key Rite Aid pharmacy initiatives, including the company's Rite Care medication therapy management service; the Rite Aid Diabetes Initiative, in partnership with the American Diabetes Association; and other disease state management programs. Drew was also integral in developing managed care relationships relating to pharmacy management and wellness initiatives.
He is credited with spearheading the creation of Rite Care, the company's medication-therapy management service, and several disease state management programs, including the Rite Aid Diabetes Initiative in conjunction with the American Diabetes Association.

It puts substantial emphasis on its PRO-file Health and Wellness System, which, utilizing Zadall software for customer records, provides patients with health maintenance and disease state management programs. The pharmacies themselves are being converted progressively so that they can offer large customer-oriented consultative areas.
Also included in its offerings are a mail-service program; claims processing; drug utilization review and reporting services; clinical and disease state management programs; home care services, including home medical equipment supplies and services, infusion services and respiratory services; discounted pricing arrangements; and workers' compensation and hospice programs.
