WWOXA gene on chromosome 16q23.3-q24.1 that encodes a putative oxidoreductase, which acts as a tumour suppressor and plays a role in apoptosis, as well as in TGFB1 signalling and TGFB1-mediated cell death. WWOX may act synergistically with p53/TP53 to control genotoxic stress-induced cell death, and may play a role in tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-mediated cell death. It inhibits Wnt signalling, and is required for normal bone development.
