A gene on chromosome 6q15-q18 that encodes a gamma chain of the gap junction protein family or connexins, which is required for central
myelination and is involved in peripheral myelination.

Molecular pathology
GJC2 mutations are linked to autosomal recessive Pelizaeus-Merzbacher-like disease-1.
