Coxsackie viruses

A large group of PICORNAVIRUS ENTEROVIRUSES of a type similar to the poliomyelitis virus. They cause HERPANGINA, BORNHOLM DISEASE (epidemic pleurodynia), MYOCARDITIS, PERICARDITIS and MENINGITIS. The group is named after Coxsackie, New York.
