polymerization

 [pah-lim″er-ĭ-za´shun]
the combining of several simpler molecules (monomers) to form a polymer.

po·lym·er·i·za·tion

(po-lim'ĕr-i-za'shŭn),
A reaction in which a high molecular weight product is produced by successive additions to or condensations of a simpler compound; for example, polystyrene may be produced from styrene, or rubber from isoprene, or a polynucleotide from mononucleotides, or microtubules from tubulin.

po·lym·er·i·za·tion

(pol'i-mĕr'ī-zā'shŭn)
A reaction in which a high molecular weight product is produced by successive additions to or condensations of a simpler compound.
Synonym(s): polymerisation.

The formation of POLYMERS from monomers.

The process to produce lactide involves the condensation polymerization of lactic acid to low molecular weight prepolymer, which is then depolymerized to lactide.

Many of the engineering thermoplastics belong to a polymer family derived from step growth polymerization, and more specifically, from condensation polymerization. In these types of polymerization reactions, a low molecular weight species, frequently water or an alcohol, is eliminated for each mainchain linkage.
patent on in-line composition monitoring by dynamic dielectric measurements was granted when it was shown that dielectric property functions could be used to monitor the composition of monomers being pumped to a continuous condensation polymerization process.
