The samples were homogenized and serially diluted (10-fold dilutions), and 100 pt\ of each dilution were spread on Columbia sheep
blood agar and incubated at 36 [degrees]C under anaerobic conditions for 5 days.
Bacteria were incubated anaerobically on 5% Columbia sheep
blood agar in an atmosphere of C[O.
For each passage, bacterial contamination of the eggs was excluded by plating out the allantoic fluid on a Columbia sheep
blood agar plate.
Animals can be registered with the Columbia Sheep
Breeders Association of America.
After 4 days, a gram-variable polymorphic rod, named nimes373, grew from both aerobic culture vials and yielded very small polymorphic colonies on Columbia sheep
blood and blood-chocolate agar plates (Bio-Rad, Marnes-la-Coquette, France).
Necrotic tissues from both cases were cultured on Columbia sheep
blood agar plates incubated aerobically and anaerobically (ANOXOMAT system, MART Microbiology BV, Lictenvoorde, the Netherlands) at 37[degrees]C for 24 h and 48 h, respectively.
