clinical target volume

Abbreviation: CTV
In radiation therapy, the grossly detectable tumor volume plus any microscopic tumor that extends outward from the grossly involved margins. The objective in radiation oncology is to treat the visible tumor and the surrounding margins adequately to destroy as many malignant cells as possible.
