biological process

A sequence of biological tasks accomplished via one or more ordered assemblies of molecular functions, which generally involve transformation—i.e., A and B enter and C and D come out.

Examples
Cell growth and maintenance, signal transduction, pyrimidine metabolism, cAMP biosynthesis.

"Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering" is designed to further the understanding of the mechanical, chemical and electrical processes of the cell and to publish studies covering: the biomechanics of cells; the chemical thermodynamics, kinetics, and transport processes associated with bio-molecular interactions and cellular processes; and, electrical processes that underlie cell behavior.
The Phospho-STAT3 marker that translocates to the cell nucleus upon activation plays a key role in many cellular processes such as cell growth and apoptosis.

Lipid rafts are heterogeneous, small (10-200nm) membrane microdomains that are enriched cholesterol and serve as a signaling platform for a multitude of cellular processes. Lipid rafts from HSG cells and mouse salivary gland tissues, were isolated using discontinuous sucrose density gradient ultracentrifugation method.
Maintaining appropriate levels of hydration happens through osmosis, the simplest of cellular processes. It is a passive process, no energy is required, just a permeable membrane.

Recent research has suggested that cells and some pathogens use microRNAs to control a variety of cellular processes.
