IL8

A gene on chromosome 4q13-q21 that encodes interleukin-8, a cytokine belonging to the CXC chemokine family. IL8 is a major mediator of inflammation, acting as a chemoattractant for neutrophils, basophils and T-cells, and is a potent angiogenic factor.

Molecular pathology
IL8 is a candidate gene for bronchiolitis.

Indeed recently, we have shown that GE (without LC), topically exposed to an allergen or an irritant, secrete negligible amounts of key cytokines and chemokines (IL-18, CCL2, CCL20, CXCL12) involved in LC migration compared to skin, whereas the general inflammatory cytokine CXCL8 was secreted at similar levels by SE and GE (Kosten et al.
Of the 7 IDs not captured or unmapped: a) CXCL8, formerly interleukin-8 (IL-8), was renamed by the Chemokine Nomenclature Subcommittee of the International Union of Immunological Societies, and the approved HUGO gene symbol is CXCL8; it functions as a major mediator of the inflammatory response and potent pro-angiogenic factor; b) CYP2C6V1 is an allelic variant of CYP2C19, which is associated with drug (anticonvulsant) metabolism; c) Cyp2a1 is the rat homolog of human CYP2A13 and functions in the steroid/lipid/cholesterol/retinol metabolic pathways; d) rat Cyp2a2 is a sexually dimorphic CYP (male-specific liver expression starting at puberty) that has steroid hydroxylase activity (e.
