MMP1 A gene on chromosome 11q22.3 that encodes matrix metalloproteinase 1, which cleaves collagens I, II and III in the helical domain, as well as collagens VII and X. MMP1 interacts and cleaves HIV’s secreted Tat protein, reducing neuronal Tat-mediated neurotoxicity.
