CLEC7AA gene on chromosome 12p13.2 that encodes a C-type lectin domain protein which acts as a pattern receptor for beta-1,3-linked and beta-1,6-linked glucans found in pathogenic bacteria and fungi. CLEC7A is required for the TLR2-mediated inflammatory response and for TLR2-mediated activation of NF-kappB. It enhances cytokine production in macrophages and dendritic cells, plays a role in T-cell activation and proliferation, and mediates production of reactive oxygen species and phagocytosis of Candida albicans.
