CLCN3

A gene on chromosome 4q33 that encodes a voltage-gated chloride channel that mediates exchange of chloride ions for protons, acting as as antiporter and contributing to acidification of endosomal and synaptic vesicle lumina; it thus may affect vesicle trafficking and exocytosis. CLCN3 may play a role in neuronal cell function by regulating membrane excitability by protein kinase C, and may have a role in short-term memory.

The establishment of the Logistics branch and the Logistics Officer Corps continue the Army's progress toward achieving a cadre of multiskilled leaders, or "pentathletes." The evolution toward the Logistics basic branch started with the development of the Combined Logistics Officers Advanced Course, progressed through that course's transition into CLC3, and advanced with the creation of functional area 90A for multifunctional logisticians.
Students attending the last two CLC3 courses before the redesigned course begins in February will attend a modified course that covers the required topics but maintains the old common core-branch technical-multifunctional sequence.
Officers will be inducted into the Logistics branch after graduating from CLC3. Each logistics officer will be required to have at least one functional area of expertise, such as petroleum operations or strategic transportation.
This intermediate desktop simulation reinforces the military decision-making process taught during the tactics instruction in CLC3. Students see their tactical plans evolve from the map board to the rock drill and, ultimately, to execution during the simulation.
These three initiatives are key educational tools for the CLC3, but they soon will be used in two more of ALMC's mid-level logistics courses.
