CHST5A gene on chromosome 16q22.1 that encodes a sulfotransferase which catalyses the transfer of sulphate to the non-reducing terminal GlcNAc of short carbohydrate substrates, but not to longer carbohydrate substrates with poly-N-acetyllactosamine structures. It does not act on keratan, nor is it involved in generating HEV-expressed ligands for L-selectin. CHST5 is expressed in the large and small intestine.
