CGF chief operating officer Darren Hall told a meeting that the organisation's "cash flow challenges were severely advanced," before Birmingham was confirmed as host in December.

And having wasted more than two years of a seven-year preparation window on Durban, the
CGF was also eager to give itself a few options by bringing more bids to the table - but reported offers from Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur and Canada's Victoria, however, never emerged.
The PS750 million pitch was the only one to be submitted by the
CGF deadline of September 30, with mooted bids from cities in Australia, Canada and Malaysia failing to materialise.
The decision on which city will be the UK Government's official bid, with public funding, will be made this summer, with the
CGF making its choice by the end of the year.
