6) Start this step any time, even weeks later, as long as you recorded the tone on the CD-R in step 4.
The level meters on the CD-R will not give you enough resolution; instead, you will need something external, probably with some gain in the channel.
7) Install the second cartridge and put a new CD-R in the recorder.
If you get a 0.3-0.5dB match to the reference level on the first test CD-R that may be all you can achieve.
