CALCA

A gene on chromosome 11p15.2 that encodes peptide hormones calcitonin, calcitonin gene-related peptide and katacalcin, by tissue-specific alternative RNA splicing of gene transcripts and cleavage of inactive precursor peptides. Calcitonin regulates calcium and phosphorus metabolism; calcitonin gene-related peptide is a vasodilator; katacalcin is a calcium-lowering peptide.

Samples were collected in north-eastern France (Lorraine Region), from the ploughed horizon (0-20 cm) of 4 soils: a Luvisol (Luv), 2 calcaric Cambisols (Calc1 and Calc2), and a magnesic Cambisol on serpentine (Serp).
In Calc1 and Luv, the [E.sub.90d] value, reached almost 60% of the total Ni for a 3-month exchange period.
The dry matter varied from 0.16 to 7.4 g per pot for/7, aestivum grown on Serp and Calc1, respectively.
Ni concentration in 77 aestivum shoots was <1 [micro]g Ni/g DM on Luv, Calc1, and Calc2 (Table 4).
The highest dry matter yield was observed on Calc1 (T.
