(1) A local or subordinate law; a private law or regulation made by a corporation for its own governing.
(2) A law that is less important than a general law or constitutional provision, and subsidiary thereto; a rule relating to a matter of detail; as in, civic societies often adopt a constitution and by-laws for governing their members.
A standing rule which governs the regulations of a society’s internal affairs—e.g., voting rights, attendance at meetings, membership, termination of membership, contracting rights and procedures for income distribution.
