vascular bundlea structure of vascular plants that runs up through the roots, into the stems and out into the leaves, and whose function is transport within the plant. Water and ions are transported mainly by XYLEM, and dissolved organic solutes mainly by the PHLOEM. Some vascular bundles are described as open since they contain dividing CAMBIUM tissue between the xylem and phloem.
