As the most bad-tempered, irritable and sour-faced GP in the world, Doctor Martin Ellingham (Martin Clunes) can be amusing and yet this persona, together with his blood phobia, can grate as much as some of the ludicrous plotlines (like the chemist's hubby shouting his stupid head off for most of the episode before finally being dragged to the surgery to get his hearing sorted out).
