Alusequence a moderately repetitive NUCLEOTIDE SEQUENCE found in the human GENOME. Each sequence is about 300 base pairs long and is interspersed with other sequences. There are between 300 000 and 500 000 copies of the Alu sequence, comprising about 3% of the total genome. The Alu sequence is named after the RESTRICTION ENZYME Alu I, which cleaves it in two.
