beta-human chorionic gonadotropin

β-human chorionic gonadotropin

a 145-amino acid subunit unique to HCG, which has the same α-chain as FSH, LH, and TSH. Pregnancy tests specific for β-HCG are more sensitive because there is no confusion with other gonadotropins secreted by the pituitary.

Beta-HCG (Beta-human chorionic gonadotropin)

A tumor marker associated with testicular cancer and tumors, such as choriocarcinoma and molar pregnancies, that begin in placental cells called trophoblasts.

Despite specific CT and MRI features for each GCT, histologic types have been described in literature [7, 8], and these tumors are associated with increased markers such as alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (beta-hCG), and placental alkaline phosphatase (PLAP), a definitive histologic diagnosis is necessary to plan proper treatment [9-11].
