Native colloidal hydrated aluminum silicate; an absorbent clay found in the western U.S.; it is sometimes used to treat diarrhea and skin disorders and was used as a suspending agent in lotions.

bentonite

A hydrated aluminosilicate that forms a thick, slippery substance when water is added. It is used as a suspending and clarifying agent. It may be heat-sterilized.
