Any of a class of organic compounds that have a five-membered heterocyclic ring with at least one nitrogen and two double bonds and that also may contain another heteroatom.

azole

Any of a family of broad-spectrum antifungals, including ketoconazole, fluconazole and itraconazole.
 
Indications
Blastomyocosis, candidiasis, coccidioidomycosis, cryptococcosis, histoplasmosis, paracoccidoidomycosis and in sporotrichosis.
 
Adverse effects
Nausea, vomiting, anorexia, rash, pruritus, nonspecific increased liver enzymes, anaemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, headache and others.
 
Drug interactions
Plasma levels of azoles are decreased by antacids, H2-receptor antagonists, sucralfate, isoniazid, phenytoin and rifampin.
