PONTYPRIDD: A new bay platform and passing loop at Pontypridd to allow an extra two trains per hour to run between Pontypridd and Cardiff.
It was decided that a bay platform at the Wolverhampton end of the station would permit passenger services of up to four cars in length to terminate there and release capacity in the through platforms for longer intercity services.
This would involve using an old alignment from Coryton to a new station at "Whitchurch Asda" (they can pay), a new "light rail" bridge to join the existing line at Radyr, then a choice either to go north on the existing line to "Morganstown for Pentyrch" (where the original Taff Vale station still exists) to a new Bay platform in Taffs Well and reverse, or just go south through Radyr, with a new station to serve the housing estate on the old goods yard, Llandaff North, Gabalfa/Mynachdy (new station), Maindy and Crwys Road stations (re-open), Cathays University and Queen Street.
At present, the only plan is to construct (in the next few months) an extra bay platform, long enough only to accommodate a four-coach train.
