The council reports that mandated benefits increase the cost of a
basic health insurance policy by less than 10% to as much as 50% or more, depending on the number and type of mandates.
* In order to guarantee that everyone can have access to affordable insurance, however, all individuals must have a responsibility to obtain insurance; thus, NSBA supports the notion that all individuals must carry at least a
basic health insurance policy. Otherwise, an individual will apply for health insurance only when they get sick, making health insurance premiums more expensive for those small businesses who already carry a policy.
