Basenji

a small (20-25 lb) red or black, with white, shorthaired dog, with prick ears, a furrowed, wrinkled forehead and a tail that coils over its back. Although known as the 'barkless' dog, it does have a characteristic vocal sound. The breed originated in North Africa as a hunting dog. Called also Congo dog. Some inherited and congenital disorders that occur in the breed are familial nonspherocytic anemia, cystinuria, fanconi's syndrome, giant hypertrophic gastritis and persistent pupillary membrane.

The Basenji - official name Champion Jethard Cidevant - became top dog at the NEC in Birmingham.
The two-year-old Basenji from Colchester, Essex won the hound category and beat six other dogs in the final to win the prestigious award - open to dogs from abroad for the first time.
