Psychiatry A specialized sheltered environment for persons undergoing rehabilitation for mental illness or addiction disorders, including drug and alcohol abuse, who do not require in-patient hospitalization, but need an intermediate degree of care before returning to independent community living; HHs are often staffed by their own 'graduates' or professionals who provide guidance and if necessary, treatment.
