In 1996, according to data from BPPC, the procurement of cloves by KUDs from farmers was only 38,300 tons while demand reached 95,789 tons.
Meanwhile, the roles of Inkud (the Headquarters of Village Cooperatives) and of BPPC need to be deleted because these only make the chain of cloves distribution to consumers very long.
For the period of January-August 1997, BPPC supplied 79,195 tons of cloves to kretek-cigarette companies with the following breakdown: 43,000 tons (54%) to large-scale companies; 27,121 tons (34%) to medium-scale ones; 2,837 tons (4%) to small-scale ones.
