In the present study, we sought to determine whether low-intensity aerobic exercise along with lower-limb BFR could improve aging-induced muscle atrophy and nAChRs downregulation.
While the exact mechanism of action is not yet fully understood, studies suggest that following BFR training there are increased levels of anabolic growth hormones and increased activation of signaling pathways, such as mTOR, that regulate muscle hypertrophy and proliferation of myogenic stem cells.
As of mid-2016, an "upgraded" version of the BFR became available with a taller, narrower hammer spur and a new, one-piece, screwless Hogue rubber grip.

Studies are conflicting with respect to the optimal duration of the BFR to promote morphological and functional adaptations in skeletal muscle.
The purpose of this study was to determine whether the acute hormone response to exercise differed between low intensity BFR resistance exercise and traditional high-intensity resistance exercise in college-aged women.
The BFR is an impressive tool, and by far the most cartridge-versatile revolver design in existence.
The World Wildlife Fund is encouraging other countries to ban another type of BFR compound, as well.
