These include Dishevelled, Pygo and BCL9, three ancient Wnt signalling components that were discovered in fruit flies, but whose roles in the transduction of the Wnt signal from the cell surface to the cell nucleus remain poorly understood.
Scientists created the new molecule after studying another naturally occurring molecule called BCL9, which transmits signals sent by Wnt in cancer cells but not in healthy cells.
The subtype is characterized by chromosomal rearrangements that involve the MEF2D gene and one of six partner genes, most often the gene BCL9. It is called MEF2D-rearranged ALL.
