BAG1

A gene on chromosome 9p12 that encodes BCL2-associated athanogene, a protein that binds to BCL2, enhancing BCL2’s anti-apoptotic and representing a link between growth factor receptors and anti-apoptotic mechanisms.

In nonsyndromal CVD, an exonic deletion in the BAG3 (BCL2-associated athanogene 3) gene has been related to dilated cardiomyopathy in a multigenerational family with autosomal dominant transmission of the disease (24).
