B-mode

B-mode

(mōd),
A two-dimensional diagnostic ultrasound presentation of echo-producing interfaces; the intensity of the echo is represented by modulation of the brightness of the spot, and the position of the echo is determined from the angular position of the transducer and the transit time of the acoustical pulse and its echo.

B-mode

brightness modulation in diagnostic ultrasonography. Bright dots on an oscilloscope screen represent echoes, and the intensity of the brightness indicates the strength of the echo. See also A-mode, M-mode.

B-mode

(mōd)
A two-dimensional diagnostic ultrasound presentation of echo-producing interfaces in a single plane; the intensity of the echo is represented by modulation of the brightness (B) of the spot, and the position of the echo is determined from the position of the transducer and the transit time of the acoustical pulse.

B-mode

brightness mode. See B-mode ultrasonography.

B-mode ultrasound is one of those imaging techniques and has been used to obtain quantitative measurements of the carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) and as such provides estimates for an individual on the absolute value (presence) and its change over time.
