Yet social care budgets across England fell by an estimated pounds 1 billion last year, according to the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services. This is the opportunity of a generation for government to improve the lives of millions of people and help ease the strain on the already financially stretched NHS.
Recently the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services revealed that Government cuts to councils will mean a further PS800m taken from care budgets in the next year - totalling PS2.68bn so far under the coalition.
Samih Kalakeche, our Director of Adult Social Care - and one of our 350 BME staff - also has a national role leading on equalities and diversity at the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS).
The awards, which are supported by the Department of Health, The Association of Directors of Adult Social Services, Social Care Institute for Excellence, Skills for Care, Ceretas and the English Community Care Association, celebrate excellence throughout social care, including statutory, independent and voluntary organisations.
