assistive listening device (ALD)

a device other than a hearing aid that provides auditory assistance to those with hearing impairment or a central auditory processing disorder. See also hearing aid.

Any device that improves sound perception for listeners with hearing impairments; usually applied to devices such as closed-loop FM systems used in addition to or instead of hearing aids.
