The life cycle of Argasidae (soft) ticks consists of three life stages: larvae, nymphs, and adults.
Ticks have been categorized in three well-defined families: Argasidae (soft ticks), Ixodidae (hard ticks), and Nuttalliellidae.
Ticks are then singled out under the superfamily Ixodoidea and then divided into two distinct subfamilies, Argasidae (soft ticks) and Ixodidae (hard ticks).
The ticks implicated in the four tick-borne illnesses outlined above belong to the Ixodidae (hard ticks) family as opposed to the soft tick Argasidae family.
