Multiple epigenetic and environmental factors that come into play in the formulation of the ultimate
arch form of an individual and therefore, a particular
arch form for the particular face type could not be found.4 A study conducted by Parsad on South Indian population concluded that there is difference in interarch width according to ethnicity and race.11
While using the values of teeth to incisive papilla distance, the points of measurement, the measuring method, the
arch form, the reference plane used, needs to be taken into consideration.
Clinically, it is important that archform does not change during orthodontic treatment because occlusal stability depends on preservation of the patient's original archform.14,15 The relapse of orthodontic treatment may occur when teeth are placed in inherently unstable positions outside the soft tissue envelope.16 The knowledge of
arch form before commencing orthodontic treatment is also important for selection of preformed arch wires.14
The present study is aimed to categorize
arch forms in different Angle classifications in patients reporting to this department, because it is imperative that the
arch form should be observed before treatment commences as this provides valuable information about the position into which teeth can be moved, if they are to be stable following treatment.
Therefore proper
arch form selection according to patient's dental
arch form is more critical for NiTi archwires as compared to stainless steel archwires because they are bendable and formable.
(13) In the present study, the oval arch shape was dominant in both the OSA severity patients followed by square and narrow
arch forms. The oval
arch form accounted for almost 60% of the total
arch forms which was similar to the findings of Acar et al.
The MNA and occlusal stop were removed, and the upper
arch form was changed from square to ovoid.
The gender, dentition type (mixed or permanent), superior lip form (short or normal), dental
arch form (ovoid or square), and respiratory type (nasal or mouth) of patients were also evaluated by two investigators.
Mandibular
arch form: the relationship between dental and basal anatomy.
The
arch form is determined during the embryonic period (BURDI, 1968).
Each of Stettheimer's four paintings is structured around a central
arch form, not dissimilar to the basic compositional structure employed by her friend Hartley in works like "The Warriors" (1913) or "Painting No.
