cromolyn

 [kro´mŏ-lin]
a drug that inhibits the release of chemical mediators of immediate sensitivity from basophils and mast cells, administered by inhalation or intranasally for prophylaxis and treatment of bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis, orally for treatment of mastocytosis, and topically to the conjunctiva for prevention and treatment of allergen-induced inflammation of the conjunctiva or cornea. It has the advantage of reducing or eliminating the need for steroids and sympathomimetics. Used in the form of its disodium salt, cromolyn sodium.
