cast·ing

(kast'ing)
A metal structure, such as an artificial tooth crown, produced by forcing molten metal into a mold.

casting,

n 1. a metallic object formed in a mold.
2. forming a casting in a mold.
casting flask,
casting machine,
n a mechanical device used for throwing or forcing a molten metal into a refractory mold.
casting machine, air pressure,
n a casting machine that forces metal into the mold via compressed air.
casting machine, centrifugal,
n a casting machine that forces the metal into the mold via centrifugal force.
casting machine, vacuum,
n a casting machine in which the metal is cast by evacuation of gases from the mold. Atmospheric pressure actually forces metal into the mold.

casting

the technique of using a rope or a special harness designed for the purpose to make an animal fall to the ground or onto a specially prepared area. Used for large animals especially horses and cattle.

casting bed
the area designated for a cast animal to fall. It is usually cushioned with straw or, in the case of a permanent facility, rubber or other synthetic padding.
Burley casting method
one that uses a rope centered over the shoulders, crossed between the front legs, crossed over the back and then passed between the hindlegs, avoiding the scrotum or udder and with traction backwards. Used in cattle.
half hitches casting method
suitable only for cattle; a non-slip knot is applied around the neck and half-hitches are placed behind the front legs and around the flanks. Traction is applied backwards.
casting harness
an arrangement of leather or webbing straps, ropes and rings is applied to the hindlegs below the pasterns with ropes running forward through a shoulder harness. Traction on the ropes pulls the legs forward and the horse falls to one side. The ropes are used to tie the legs in a convenient position. Not suitable for use with cattle.
casting pen
used at abattoirs to restrain animals that are to be slaughtered according to the Jewish law. It is a restraint cage or cradle which enables the operator to tip the animal onto its back so that it can be slaughtered while it is still conscious.

By combining IP Anycast with Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), NeuStar can provide its customers with what I consider to be outstanding performance and security.
IP Anycast provides the ability to simultaneously advertise the same public IP addresses from multiple machines in multiple locations.
Rodney's insight and early adoption of IP Anycast combined with BGP has led to a dramatic improvement in the performance and security of the DNS infrastructure, and hence the Internet," said Paul Vixie, president of ISC.
IP Anycast is one of the foundational elements of managed DNS services.
DNS is ideally suited to the use of an IP Anycast infrastructure because the vast majority of DNS queries are sent using the User Datagram Protocol (UDP) as their transport mechanism," said Steve Crocker, CEO of Shinkuro, Inc.

Tunnel endpoints are determined by using a well-known IPv4 anycast address on the remote side before embedding the IPv4 address information within IPv6 addresses on the local side.
In anycast, there is also a one-to-many association between network addresses and network endpoints: each destination address identifies a set of receiver endpoints, but only one of them is chosen at any given time to receive information from any given sender,
On the Internet, anycast is usually implemented by using BGP to simultaneously announce the same destination IP address range from many different places on the Internet, This results in packets addressed to destination addresses in this range being routed to the "nearest" point on the net announcing the given destination IP address.
Anycast is best suited to connectionless protocols like UDP, rather than connection-oriented protocols such as TCP, since the receiver selected for any given source may change from time to time as optimal routes change.
For this reason, anycast is generally used as a way to provide high availability and load balancing for stateless services such as access to replicated data,
