A gene on chromosome 4q21-23 that encodes class-I alcohol dehydrogenase, gamma subunit, a member of the alcohol dehydrogenase family, which metabolise various substrates, including ethanol, retinol, other aliphatic alcohols, hydroxysteroids and lipid peroxidation products.
