A novel liquid-phase enzyme immunoassay AlaSTAT
for IgE antibody determination.
IR Cook continues to prove what his England teammates have long known about him - that he is an immensely talented Test batsman.

These include the CAP System (Pharmacia), AlaSTAT
(Diagnostic Products Corp., Los Angeles, CA), and Hy-TECH (Hycor, Garden Grove, CA).
Each of the laboratories used one of three common blood tests--the RAST, AlaSTAT
, and ImmunoCap--to test for allergies.
All characterized serum samples were analyzed simultaneously in the Pharmacia CAP system, the DPC AlaSTAT
system, and the Esoterix Allergy and Asthma system immunoassays to measure correlation to the described microarray assay.
Currently there are three FDA-licensed systems on the market: the CAP assay marketed by Pharmacia-Upjohn, which has a sensitivity of 75% and a specificity of 91%; AlaSTAT
marketed by Diagnostic Products Corp., which has a sensitivity of 79% and a specificity of 95%; and HY-TEC marketed by Hycor Biomedical Inc., giving a sensitivity of 89.8% and a specificity of 67.5%.
In 1993, the prevalence of latex-specific IgE antibodies (detected by AlaSTAT
EIA) was found to be 8.9 percent among registered nurses working in acute care areas in a large metropolitan hospital in Detroit (21).
Three FDA-approved blood tests for latex-specific IgE antibodies, called IgE immunoassays, are now used: The Pharmacia & Upjohn CAP System, the Diagnostic Products' Alastat
and the Hycor Assay.
IR Cook believes England are still alive in the third npower Test against Pakistan, despite a woeful collapse by his fellow barsmen.
