A now-deceased self-proclaimed nutritionist, whose 14 books and pamphlets continue to be widely read and sold despite containing major scientific flaws and adverse recommendations. Airola believed in fasting and enemas for acne, alcoholism, jaundice, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and others conditions; adrenal cortical extract for hypoglycemia; lactovegetarian diet for diabetes; magnesium for diarrhoea; garlic for haemorrhoids; raw milk and eggs for jaundice; gerovital (procaine) for impotence and ageing; headstands to firm up the breasts; and so on.
