An important advance in ICT boundary scan testing today is the support of 1149.6, an IEEE standard for boundary scan testing of advanced digital networks. The 1149.6 boundary scan test enables ICTs to test high-speed differential signals commonly found on telecom, computers and server boards (FIGURE 2).

The newest version of JTAG ProVision[TM] supports testing based on IEEE 1149.6 for advanced digital networks. It automatically produces a test for these types of advanced digital interfaces based upon the netlist of the circuit, the 1149.6 BSDL files, and model files for the components in the design.
The IEEE 1149.6 Boundary Scan Standard for Advanced Digital Networks, for example, uses scan chains to test high-speed serial buses such as Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel.
