Act of ParliamentA law in the UK, which has followed a sequence of steps: the Government—or sometimes a backbench Member of Parliament (MP)—wishes to introduce new laws or revise existing law. Draft legislation is introduced into Parliament the form of a Bill. Bills are discussed in both the House of Commons and the House of Lords and may be amended. If both Houses agree to the proposals contained in a Bill, it is sent for Royal approval. Once the Bill has been given Royal Assent, the Bill becomes an Act of Parliament.
