STAMBP

A gene on chromosome 2p13.1 that encodes zinc metalloprotease, which plays a role in endosomes; it opposes ubiquitin-dependent sorting of receptors to lysosomes, plays a role in signal transduction for cell growth and MYC induction mediated by IL-2 and GM-CSF, and potentiates bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signalling by antagonising SMAD6 and SMAD7 inhibition.
