ALDH6A1

ALDH6A1

A gene on chromosome 14q24.3 that encodes a mitochondrial methylmalonate semialdehyde dehydrogenase, an aldehyde dehydrogenase, which is involved in valine and pyrimidine catabolism. It causes the irreversible oxidative decarboxylation of malonate and methylmalonate semialdehydes to acetyl- and propionyl-CoA.

In a recent study, several genes involved in BCAA catabolism were downregulated in muscle from insulin-resistant subjects [26]; the highest correlation was seen with MUT and ALDH6A1, both involved in valine catabolism downstream of 3-HIB.
