AIFM1
A gene on chromosome Xq26.1 that encodes an oxidoreductase with both apoptotic and anti-apoptotic activity. During apoptosis, AIFM1 istranslocated from the mitochondria to the nucleus to act as a pro-apoptotic factor in a caspase-independent pathway; its anti-apoptotic activity occurs in mitochondria and is attributed to oxidoreductase. It plays a key role in caspase-independent pyknotic cell death in hydrogen-peroxide-exposed cells.
