capacitive coupling

Electronics
The intentional or fortuitous transfer of energy within an electrical network by capacitance between circuit nodes.

Surgery
A potential endoscopic electrosurgical hazard, which occurs when electrical current is transferred from one conductor —e.g., an active electrode surrounded by insulation—into adjacent conductive materials—e.g., a trocar or tissue. The risk of tissue damage can be reduced by using low-power, low-voltage settings with intermittent rather than prolonged bursts, and by not operating near metal or conductive objects in the operative field.

However, other modulation schemes present a peak at DC, and capacitive AC coupling will lead to significant information loss, hence considerably degrading the bit error rate (BER).
AC coupling allows us to use distributed arrays of more than 4000 junctions that have larger output voltage as compared to the previously used lumped arrays with only 250 junctions.
The pyro-electric sensor is interfaced directly to the high-resolution Sigma/Delta Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) input on the microcontroller without any AC coupling, gain, filtering or temperature compensation.
The Model: DCD is innovatively designed whereby DC isolation is achieved and AC coupling is maintained, ensuring electrical grounding criteria remains effective.
For example, AC coupling is used to block the DC component of a waveform, but good low-frequency response requires a large value capacitor and its attendant charging time.
If you use a combination DC/AC current probe, set the oscilloscope for AC coupling to prevent measurement error that would result from a DC offset within the probe.

Unless there is a large dc voltage present on the input side of the ac coupling capacitor, nonpolarized capacitors should be used.
