ABPA

FLNC

A gene on chromosome 7q32-q35 that encodes filamin gamma (filamin C), a muscle-specific actin-binding protein that crosslinks actin filaments into orthogonal networks in cortical cytoplasm and anchors membrane proteins to the actin cytoskeleton. It is critical for normal myogenesis and for maintaining the structural integrity of the muscle fibres.

Molecular pathology
Defects in FLNC cause myofibrillar myopathy type 5 and myopathy distal type 4.

Rashid Ahmed informed that the people with predisposing factors (asthma, cystic fibrosis) should try to avoid environments where this fungus is found if possible. He said that ABPA, if not diagnosed and treated early, can cause life-threatening complications. But current diagnostician methods have been complicated by poorly characterized antigen mixtures that lacked sensitivity and specificity, but recent breakthroughs in the characterization, isolation, and purification of these antigens has the potential for greatly improving diagnosis, he added.
More interestingly, more than half the AI patients on systemic corticosteroids had ABPA compared to none in the subgroup of patients not taking systemic corticosteroids.
In a study by Agrawal et al., the prevalence of ABPA was observed to be higher in patients with acute severe asthma compared to outpatient with bronchial asthma (39% versus 21%) [7, 8].

Based on the extensive workup, a diagnosis of allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) was made.
It has generally been accepted that pulmonary aspergillosis can be divided into invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA), chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA), simple pulmonary aspergilloma (SPA), and allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) [5,6].
