A39R

A39R

A protein of the semaphorin family, which upregulates ICAM-1/CD54 expression on human monocytes and induces cytokine production in monocytes. An A39R receptor, plexin-C1 (also known as VESPR—virus-encoded semaphorin protein receptor), binds A39R, inhibiting phagocytosis by dendritic cells and neutrophils in vitro.

Plexin C1, previously known as VESPR (Virus Encoded Semaphorin Protein Receptor), is a receptor for soluble viral semaphorin A39R originating from Vaccinia virus, which stimulates cytokine production from monocytes [7].
